Modules That Create Space for Actionable, Interdisciplinary Conversation

Human Trauma and Resilience

This module explores the complexities of human trauma, how it changes the body and brain, and how this leads to behaviors and decision-making that blow through society… hidden from view and with massive costs. More importantly, we will see examples of how trauma can be mitigated and healed with positive ripple effects — financial, social, and natural — throughout many sectors. Finally, we will discuss how we might work together to advance all of our interests.

Healthcare Systems

This module explores the massive costs and constraints of operating a healthcare system in a silo — in local communities and at the federal level — without consideration of upstream and downstream impacts. It explores ways in which communities are creating conditions that reduce the need for healthcare and how healthcare could use it’s influence to a much greater degree to support upstream solutions and allow themselves to focus on those things that are unavoidable. This module is not for the faint of heart and it pulls no punches on the current system. It is most appropriate for bold, future-focused leaders who are looking to completely re-imagine the healthcare system.

Farming & Food Systems

This module explores the history of agriculture and food systems, policies and practices that create the results we have today, and why this matters to healthcare, education, and the economy. We will look at alternative financially viable systems that exist today and create greater human connection and healthier people and ecosystems. We will discuss how each of us might influence movement toward systems that benefit all of us and leave with commitments to do so.

Learning Systems

This module explores the history of education systems as compared to how we actually learn. We will see how mainstream education as a system fails too many kids — even those who ‘do well’ — and feeds challenges we see throughout our economy and communities. We will look at models where education and learning lead to lower levels of anxiety, depression and suicide; and increase creativity, connection, happiness and a love of learning. We will discuss ways each of us might contribute to movement toward an educational system that supports authentic learning, prepares people to adapt and positively influence a world that none of us has yet experienced, and we will leave with commitments to take action.

Workforce, Political and Economic Systems

In this module we will explore the history of GDP as a measure and how ‘work’ and ‘management practices’ came to be. We will also reflect on budget forecasts at all levels and silos of decision-making and the associated consequences. We will look at alternatives already in motion that could drastically change the course of our collective future to the benefit of people and planet. We will discuss how each of us might influence movement toward systems that benefit all of us and leave with commitments to do so.

Post-Experience Learning Community

Everyone who participates in the program will be invited to an online learning community to continue the discussion. This community will grow over time and offer the real opportunity to create change. Here we will discuss successes we are having around the country and throughout the world, share resources, ask questions when we are stuck, and support each other’s efforts. We will be unencumbered by false silos and topics and create a community that sees the connections across sectors. We can show up to each other’s industry events. We can show support for each other’s policy efforts at the state and federal level. And we can share success stories widely to inspire an even broader network. This is a space for change makers.
